17th Annual Pilipino Graduation Celebration hosted by PAC

The Pilipino Graduation Celebration is an annual event hosted by PAC which allows Pilipino graduates to come together to celebrate their accomplishments from their undergraduate or Master’s careers. This is a more intimate event that gives graduates the opportunity to share their experience with others in the community.

Family and friends are all invited to come and support all of the graduates for their hard work! This event is open and free to the public and will begin at 11AM in the USU Ballrooms on Saturday, May 18.

Hope to see you there!

“LAKAS: The Power of Our People”
Written & Directed by Cindy Jimenez, Michael Sarmiento, & Paul Zappia
Produced by Ashley Cruz & Jessica Rosales

Jedrek Ibarra is a college student who takes a particular interest in the Justice for Filipino American Veterans (JFAV) movement. After meeting Jasmine Garcia, together they decide to create a documentary revolving around Jedrek’s grandmother’s story about how she and her husband met in the Philippines during World War II.

Jedrek’s grandmother, Maria “Nanay” Ibarra, takes Jedrek on a journey through her past as she reveals her love story: the story of Maria Clara and Juan Crisostomo. In the midst of this project, problems arise within the Ibarra household.

As the story develops, Marc, Jedrek’s younger brother, is going through his own discovery of his identity. Through the help of his best friend, Maddie Concepcion, he finds confidence in who he is.

Eventually, the paths of each character cross and truths are revealed. Though past and present struggles are different, one thing stays the same – strength. Confidence in identity and the power of the Pilipino culture is found by looking back at history, taking past lessons, and bringing them into the future.
